What our Album is All About
We are nine Austin singer-songwriter women who have gathered together to make a children's music album under the production leadership of Austin's own beloved and prolific Sara Hickman, the 2010 Texas State Musician of the Year. Half of us are mamas. All of us love children. We are:
Monica Cravotta, Noelle Hampton, Erin Ivey, Gretchen Janzow, Libby Kirkpatrick, Mary Londos, Elizabeth McQueen, Sarah Sharp, and Elizabeth Suggs.
Our trusted engineer is the talented & wonderful Andre Moran.
We have a wonderful, eclectic collection of 14 songs that appeal to adults and children alike. We are recording our music at Hideout Studios, courtesy of the Cravotta's. Our mission includes making a significant contribution to the children's music genre, as well as to an organization that we believe needs more public awareness: The Mother's Milk Bank.
Most people are not aware of the need for donated breast milk to help feed prematurely born and ill babies. According to the Mother's Milk Bank of Austin, "The need for human milk becomes paramount for premature and ill infants, who are six to ten times more likely to acquire life-threatening infections during the critical neonatal period if they are fed infant formula instead of human milk."
In general, not enough people know about how important breastfeeding is for the short and long-term health of all babies. We want to spread the word about both! We plan to donate all profits from the album to the Mother's Milk Bank in Austin which serves babies in Texas, and around the country.
Of the $19,000+ in expenses to complete the album, we have covered all but $3825 through trades and donations from the hosts, participants and friends.
Please help us raise the last of what we need to make this album come to life. It will be a dream come true for me (Monica) who cooked up the idea shortly after the birth of my first daughter in 2006.
